It was 1980. With ten thousand ringgit and a team seconded by PETRONAS' Personnel Department, we were tasked to start and sustain a cooperative that provides financial aid to its members. We knew it would be challenging, but we also saw an opportunity to touch and nurture many.
Some 30 years later, Koperasi Kakitangan PETRONAS Berhad (KOPETRO) is regarded as one of the top 10 cooperative among more than 12,000 cooperatives in Malaysia.
We have ventured into various industries from food & beverages to travel & tours to oil & gas to property to hospitality. From a team of eight, we now emply over 500 people with offices and operations around the country. Our annual turnover has grown from a few hundred thousand to almost half a billion. We have received numerous awards including the prestigious Anugerah Koperasi Cemerlang (Kluster Besar) and the Prime Minister's Quality Award.
